Yes this has been discussed a lot - see for instance https://github.com/bids-standard/bep021/issues/1. Given that there is a need to N-D arrays, and hdf5 works maybe we should limit to that?...

the PR is about the use of mutidim array in derivatives only - as discussed at the meeting - and we'll use that in the other BEPs to make examples
