I've done further testing with magnitude limits. With 4G of RAM on Linux, I'm able to merge the catalogs if I include mag 11 and brighter in under 3 minutes....

I'm having the same problem, but installing with conda install (anaconda set up). svgwrite-1.4.3 installed from conda forge on a M1 Mac with Monterey. Like you, svgwrite was working well...
