Unable to use on Ubuntu 20.04

I'm having trouble installing this on my Ubuntu 20.04 machine. I have done git clone https://github.com/AtsushiSakai/julia.vim.git ~/.vim/pack/plugins/start/julia.vim but when I try :JuliaDocstring gives me [Error] Cannot find target codes.

I have tried another plugin git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/preservim/nerdtree.git ~/.vim/pack/plugin/start/nerdtree, which works (:NERDTree).

Any ideas what could be going wrong? I very likely haven't given enough info - please ask for anything relevant :)

P.S. this works really well on my macos machine (11.2.3 Big Sur)
