It's not as much of an issue on a desktop since you can resize (drag and drop) the width of each column. I don't think "side-scrolling" would be a user-friendly...

I think the text suggests that MIS12 is the part of the outer kinetochore that contacts the inner kinetochore it looks like inner kinetochore is synonymous with CCAN / Mis6-Sim4...
