Looking at https://github.com/react-native-community/react-native-masked-view/issues/22 it seems that changing MaskedViewiOS to MaskedView and using its latest version should make android example work, but at the moment I'm not able to achieve this...

Nope. As you have written there, Image.getSizeWithHeaders should be used and to support also preload a similar prefetch method should be used (and maybe created too)
