Yeah, it behaves similar to how UploadWizard does it, but is indeed a bug.

I think that some specific TIFF files are problematic for Commons. Could you try to upload one problematic file through the commons website. if it fails this is an Commons...

No it does not require jQuery. What makes you think that?
Yes it's used in the demo(`demo.js`) for loops etc. If you take a look at the plugin's source you won't find any dependency on jQuery.
