FWIW I use [this modification](https://github.com/10ne1/emacs-mini-modeline/commit/8c239047c01a29fa7545ddc840c8fc98328534dc) along with the following config and mini-modeline works quite smooth on my machines, without any flickering (that's why I suppress some mostly useless error signals)...

FYI: Upstream responded to my request and created a [new release](https://github.com/alonbl/gnupg-pkcs11-scd/releases/tag/gnupg-pkcs11-scd-0.11.0). I'll just push the 9999 ebuild to the GURU repository.
