You could wrap the whole thing in another script, then both processes will be accessible within the same environment.

What's the point? So you don't have to write to disk. The host script sits in between lua-macros and autohotkey and does all the work without writing to disk.

Could include a locales folder which would have maps of all key codes to characters. Surely this already exists somewhere?

Wouldn't this sort of thing work? ``` lua [string.byte(';')] = "semicolon" ``` That would solve the special character problem.

I think an important thing to remember here is that keycodes != character codes.
