My point was that you don't need to edit the generated overpass query if you just want to retrieve individual object, which is at least a good workaround.
But the boiler plate is all there, just - click on the object search menu item - enter type:node id:1 - click query overpass - click run
While @paulmach might want to accommodate this in any case, the tool in question (osmconvert) is broken, and any standard compliant XML parser should be parsing both variants.
