Probably you would want to use `locate-dominating-file` here. There should be no need for the `f` library.

Not sure there's an objectively best choice, sorry. You wouldn't necessarily want to force the current file to be saved, nor should you necessarily need all the other files included...
The more highlighting, the better, IMO. Emacs treesit supports configurable font lock levels via the standard `treesit-font-lock-level` variable, so my view is that when that variable is set to 4...
Agree, renovate or similar would be an alternative to the current set-up, but I think the current compromises are fine. Thanks for reading this and dropping the link, though, @ncouture!
