It's just some shrewd forward port of the [oldish patches](https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromiumos/overlays/chromiumos-overlay/+/master/media-libs/mesa-img/files) for MT8173 chromebooks. Which yes, is part of a collaboration, but they are EOL since a few years.
