Agree that it would be nice select what variable to remove, but did you know that by clicking the legend you'll toggle the visibility of the variable? Will that help...

To clarify, you are referring to schema and models used for testing right?
Actually you are not complicating matters. I realized that we either have to include or exclude variables, but couldn't find a suitable format for this. Your suggestion looks great!

Can this be considered solved with PR #388?
I vote for removing dead code. Let's introduce when needed. Could these methods be something @lassebje would like to use when developing the configuration tool?
