This is fine in 2.0.0-beta.15, but we also found this in 2.0.0-beta.16. Already fixed in https://github.com/athensresearch/athens/pull/2047. Will make release 2.0.0-beta.17 for fix soon.

Which syntax makes more sense? Probably would do markdown first, since Wikipedia syntax can get crazy.
