You can already hide any entry in the system tray. Simply right-click on the tray → Configure System Tray... → Entries. There is no need to edit the source code.

Oh, you are right. Can't hide it either. I do wonder why it gets grayed out in this mode...

It will work in the new version of the applet anyway.

The new tray applet will use monochrome icon by default. For more information, see #23.
