If a gender-specific term has an equivalent in another language then that should be used. For example: - fireman → bombero - firefighter → bombero, bombera - firewoman → bombera...
For me, "firefighter" is an Americanism, it's *Fireman Sam* (or *Sam Tân*) not *Firefighter Sam* :) -- That's why I chose this example.
Well, I've never come across a firewoman, but it is the word I would use in that case. I wouldn't use *firefighter* as it is an Americanism. Fireman Sam is...
