Fork the repo, redo your changes in the fork, and submit your changes as a pull request. That way, the issue can be properly resolved.

And yes, what I described is basic GitHubbing. It's OK though, we all were new to this at some point ;-)

Honestly, I just help with the moderation work on some repos I find cool.
