I can reproduce and this really looks like a driver bug.
No, there was no active removal of OpenGL functionality. They just marked the API as deprecated. Apple's support for OpenGL was never great though.
Can you try the latest master?
It sounds like it took a while to reproduce, is it just random every once in a while or does it start/get more frequent after some time?

Would be useful to bisect the actual commit that broke this. It shouldn't be too hard if the lower limit is 0.13.1.
