Thanks for the patch, I'll take a look at this over the next couple of days.

I'm going to reopen this with the intention of replicating the way this works in Ruby and making the settings available in the plugin base class.

I've been planning to take a look at the metrics classes and bring them in line with the Ruby gem equivalent to this package. We have a lot of changes...
