Wow, that's an amazing effort @lanwin! That must have taken some time to figure out. I'll definitely try migrating to this at some point.

Perhaps a good middleground for UX purposes would be `username` for any users on your current instance, and `[email protected]` for users on another instance.

Nice, sounds like a setting will give most people what they prefer.
