Have you tried adjusting the thumbnail size in Options?

I don't at the moment. Here's the link to the documentation: https://quelea-projection.github.io/docs/General_tab It's under "Thumbnail size"

@berry120 I purged vlc and all packages with vlc in their names, and reinstalled them explicitly specifying to install the amd64 versions. And it still doesn't detect vlc.

I don't think there is a transition when a playlist item becomes live, when it replaces another item. It just cuts right to the item, with no fading or option...
