Thanks. That makes good sense. I can't think of a really great solution, but I did come up with a possibility: Firefox allows developers to set *on-demand* permissions for extensions....

If you know a little CSS, you can accomplish this by adding a little code to the custom CSS section.

Just tested it again. The *Backward direction* option is definitely disabled.

@sasumner If I understand things correctly, when autopopulation is disabled using the new option, this should no longer be an issue. But when autopopulation is enabled, the caret should remain...
