That's a pretty neat feature. Since LXTerminal is based on VTE, this sort of stuff technically needs to be supported by VTE first, then it becomes (relatively) trivial to implement...
I think it would be a reasonable feature to implement if done so in a lean way (minimal GUI and code), I'll keep open and try my hand at it....

I believe that is by design so you don't accidentally launch a browser while clicking inside a terminal window (say to bring it in focus).
Or maybe another row in 'Shortcuts' called something like "Link open modifier" that would default to "Ctrl". Not sure if that's ambiguous.
