I am a maintainer for [MichaBrugger's Obsidian Footnotes](https://github.com/MichaBrugger/obsidian-footnotes) plugin, an active fork of this plugin. This feature has been fixed in my plugin.

This is an inherent issue with Obsidian's Live Preview Mode and has nothing to do with this plugin. If you switch to Reading Mode, the formatting should work again.
