The Timeout is there and will be removed if you press a key. Please look that you havn‘t pressed any key or do other input while loading grub.

you can use the image and convert it with starwind v2v to an esxi image with fixed size. it will work. ;) the problem with the stock vmdk is about...

Use an v1000-dt model instead. it's not freezed, it's trying to boot dsm but look like some of your hardware can't be handled by DS920+

Because of disks addon doesn't count scsi bus drives, so the maxdisks value will be set wrong. try arc from my github and report back , please.
