default tilde (~) accelerator breaks alt-tab and alt-~ functionality in Ubuntu 20.04

In Ubuntu 20.04, when the default shortcut is set to tilde (~), I am unable to use alt-tab or alt-~ to toggle between different apps/windows. If I change the shortcut key to something else, I am again able to use alt-tab and alt-~ to switch between windows, as expected.
