the remembrance database/backend could be improved by using something like recoll for file search and/or notmuch for mail (both based on xapian).

the ra-retrieve interface could be updated to use recoll/notmuch queries and then adapted through use to improve/learn/adjust the query->result mappings (reinforcement learning?)
