Cannot check for updates

When I click on Check Now in the Update Checker, I get the error:

Unable to check for updates. Please make sure you are connected to internet.

However I am connected to the internet.

I can see a TCP connection to ec2-52-64-108-95.ap-southeast-2.compute.amazonaws.com occur when I click the button.
