Deduplicate documentation for desktop app installations
We have 4 documents on how to install the desktop app:
- https://zulip.com/help/desktop-app-install-guide (HTML for production, most visually polished)
- https://github.com/zulip/zulip-desktop/blob/master/how-to-install.md (production)
- https://github.com/zulip/zulip-desktop/blob/master/development.md (development)
I think ideally we'd eliminate how-to-install.md
by merging it into desktop-app-install-guide
(with some polishing), and make sure we have the appropriate set of links?
@timabbott I am currently getting started with zulip desktop. Should I try setting one for production and on the way working on this issue, improving the guide?
I actually installed and read both the docs for installing the desktop app on windows and ubuntu. I found that the links and information present in how-to-install.md are all present in desktop-install-guide In case of macOS and windows, it was almost same.
In case of linux OS, for ones who use apt like Ubuntu, the how-to-install.md
explains the steps one by one and better than desktop-app-install-guide
. I guess, we can polish in that area and then we can easily remove how-to-install.md
file.
However, I think we have to also change where the links of how-to-install-guide.md
are used. Any suggestions, how that can be done?
Hey, @timabbott I have linked a PR for this issue can you please review it?
