Sorry @zeppelin85! Been underwater with all the general Spark stuff :-) I am planning to get back to it pretty soon though, and base the design off of the new Crazyflie 2.0: http://www.bitcraze.se/crazyflie-2/

Looks like this project is going on right now to use a Spark Core to control a quad-copter.

It is called Q-Shield, and it looks like they have a MAVLink integration.
