Issue with docs.zowe.org/stable/user-guide/configure-zowe-server/

Open hockeyrob opened this issue 2 years ago • 3 comments

Description

This page seems not to have been updated since before V2.0; there is no reference to performing this setup with zwe init stcs, and the information about the instance directory and and instance.env is poorly presented and out of date...since there is no instance.env any longer, and then, no zowe-start.sh script anywhere in the distributed software.

Pages to Update

Additional context

I'm entirely new to Zowe, and am finding the configuration documentation confusing, uncoordinated and outdated, with information scattered over several locations, some of which, like this one, are clearly untrustworthy. Seems to me, from my experience in the process so far, that much of the configuration doc needs to be rewritten. Please. There were several issues I found and just accepted, but this page...is pretty important, since it talks about the primary started task for Zowe...and the webpage says Zowe v2.1.x at the top.

@hockeyrob Thank you for reporting this issue! You're right that the cited link https://docs.zowe.org/stable/user-guide/configure-zowe-server/ is no longer applicable to Zowe V2 and it should be cleared from Zowe docs. We're sorry for the confusion that it brings to you. This topics has been removed completely from Zowe docs now.

To configure Zowe, please refer to this series of topics under Configuring: https://docs.zowe.org/stable/user-guide/initialize-zos-system. This topic gives a better overview of the sequence of these steps and why they are needed https://docs.zowe.org/stable/user-guide/install-zos#stage-3-configure-the-zowe-zos-runtime

Hope this helps and don't hesistate to let us know if you need more help with Zowe setup.

This throws a lot of things into question from the original configuration/setup of Zowe; I’m trying to learn what pieces of zowe.yaml are required for a basic installation and setup, what configuration items you’ll need that aren’t included in that file, and what is leftover/deprecated. Can’t tell, since the docs all seem to say 2.2 LTS right now, which docs actually relate to post-2.0 Zowe.
