This seems like something that is up to the module developers. The origins of the raster should be well documented in the help documentation.

I seem to recall a suggestion that we provide a mechanism to pass that metadata with the rasters through the workflow. I don't know of any standard metadata format that's compatible with the raster package though, and developing a new GIS metadata format sounds like mission creep.

I agree that this is low priority - motivating module writers to put details in the covariate module is best
