Mario Kart 7 Error

I have followed all the steps correctly on the 3ds hacks guide menu. Until I get to the part where I open up the street pass list and have to press (A) is where I'm stuck. Whenever I open up the street pass list it freezes and I get kicked out with the prompt "An error has occurred, forcing the software to close" and then my system will restart. I have a USA console and copy of Mario kart and everything is in the right place. I'm not huge on tech stuff but I need help on how to fix this. I have also updated my MK7 to 1.2
