Suggestion for FAQ: document when a Zonemaster check can be repeated
I used Zonemaster to look at what a newly configured zone looked like and followed the recommendation to add an MX record with 0 .. Since I wasn’t quite sure whether Zonemaster would like the rdata, I attempted to requery the zone.
I was very quickly shown the same result, so I backed off a bit and waited first roughly one minute, then three, but I always got the previous check results. I wasn’t SOA TTL either. ;-)
it’s something that’s configured in the backend (and isn’t publicly shown). By default it’s 10 minutes.
This issue is a suggestion to add this information in the list of FAQ.
@jpmens, GUI uses Zonemaster-Backend, and it is function there that if the same domain name was tested less than 10 minutes ago (the default value that can be changed) then the previous test result is presented. I agree that it is not obvious, but you can notice that the test completes very quickly.
Your suggestion that is should be documented in the FAQ is good, and maybe we should try to show that information in some other ways too.
Hi @jpmens, unless I misunderstand I think this information is already present in the FAQ: see fourth bullet point in https://zonemaster.net/en/faq#how-come-my-domain-name-cannot-be-tested. But as Mats suggests maybe we should have another way to tell when that happens.
Indeed, and I looked for the information, but, as you might imagine, seeing this:
did not immediately make it clear that the information I was looking for was in there, because my zone could be tested; it was just not re-tested. ;-)
But sure, you win, so do feel free to close this. :-)
