Group chat push notifications not going through

Open cstiens opened this issue 8 years ago • 1 comments

We suspect the solution for this is on the server side. Perhaps, when you're offline, the server doesn't think you're part of the group, so it doesn't send pushes. @chrisballinger Will you please fill in with the details you shared on the call?

Finding 1: No push notifications for groups In all testing cases, push notifications weren’t sent for group chats. The local notifications came through for them once the app was open. Push notifications for single chats would come through. These prompted the user to open the app. From there, they saw the local notifications for group chat. These would say ‘New Message’ and ‘You have 5 new messages’.

Finding 2: Notifications affected by timing R completely quit Zom in the evening. T sent messages to a group. R didn’t receive any push notifications that evening or night for those messages.

The next morning, T sent more group messages. Push notifications weren’t received for them. A single chat was sent. R got a push notification for the single chat, so she opened the app. She received local notifications for all of the group messages that were sent that morning. She didn’t receive local notifications for the messages sent the previous evening (which were also to a different group). These notifications would show which group they were from along with part of the message.

Question: If a message is sent to a group, and the contact doesn’t open their app for 6-12 hours (ie a certain amount of time), could this affect whether the contact receives local or push notifications for them?
