@n8fr8 While testing in the Alpha build, MUC encryption seems to be working very well! I did notice the delivery receipts were a bit finicky. Also, I now see the shield once you enable chat encryption.

Testing was done on Android devices who were friends and created a group.

Devices:

  • Moto E OS: Android. 5.1

  • Moto G play OS: Android 6.0.1

  • Moto X OS: Android 5.1

App version: 15.4.0-alpha-1

@n8fr8 Today while testing once I enabled encrypted group chat no messages in the group were being received--Even for people who are your friends.

  • Every message had a clock on the sender side.
  • Turning off encryption sent all the queued messages to the group.

Without encryption turned on you can see all messages in group chat. Even media messages from those from people who are not your friends.

Devices:

  • Samsung Galaxy S7 OS: Android 7.0

  • Moto G play OS: Android 6.0.1

  • Moto X OS: Android 5.1

App version: 15.4.0-alpha-1

Were these new contacts? Could you send messages one-to-one to the people in the group?

Was this on staging or home?

  • New- meaning I just reinstalled the app and added friends then created a group. Not everyone in the group was friends. However, before turning on group encryption you could see all messages sent within the chat. Whether contacts were your friend or not.
  • Yes, you could send one-to-one chats to people in the group.
  • Home server.
