Organize Android Assets into Folders & "Export Group Contents Only" Features
Pixi-Stix has a branch of your code (https://github.com/pixi-stix/sketch-mobile-assets) where assets are organized into folders, saving lots of time. Though one feature that lacks in comparison to sketches default exporter, is the feature where you can click on the slice and select ""Export Group Contents Only", this prevents you from having to hide other background layers, again, saving lots of time. It would be great to implement a similar feature. Thanks!
Ps. Sorry for the "pull request earlier", i'm a github noob :)
I'm sorry it took so long, but I finally found time to look at the Pixi-Stix fork of the code. I'm not sure I understand what the reasoning for the folders is, but that's probably because I'm not a designer :smile_cat:
I will definitely have a look at the "group contents only" feature, that looks like a really useful feature, but I think I need a little more information to understand the other features in the other version.
Looks like the Pixi-Stix version adds iOS export support along with the Android export, does that work with your normal workflow? My designer colleagues tend to use different designs for the two platforms, but that's just how they do things…
Also: are iOS devs OK with having @2x-named assets instead of asset catalogs?
Sorry for the wall of questions, but I feel I need to understand the issues better :-)
@zmalltalker I was just looking at implementing group contents only before coming across this issue. That's an important one but there doesn't seem to be much documentation around how to do this.
And on an iOS note, it sounds like you were planning on generating asset catalog json? Is that the case? I don't know if that's necessary but that would be an interesting option.
@davidklaw from what I hear, asset catalogs seem to be what most iOS devs want these days and it seems fairly simple to implement so sure.
Indeed they are. I almost took the leap towards doing this earlier in my current project but did not. I've been questioning whether or not (in our case) it adds confusion or in any way creates friction under the guise of removing friction for the developer. I'm interested to see how others feel.
I'd down for giving it a shot when you do add that feature.
Hey guys - Sorry my reply took so long! This email was stuck in my junk mail for months!!
Please let me know if you still need any input/help from me, I'd be happy to help :)
Cheers! Sunny.
