Are ports opened correctly?
Hi, I use a vpn and I have had problems with Gufw firewall. Using wine with eMule I had to create specific rules otherwise I would get low id. This did not happen to me with Windows firewall, I just had to open the ports entered on any p2p client both on the client and on the vpn and everything worked perfectly, without setting anything on my router. I did the same thing with MuWire, I opened the same ports on the client and on the vpn, Gufw is active, but at this point I have the doubt if MuWire is actually working at its best and that the ports are actually seen open by the client. It seems to me that it works well, but there is no way, like on eMule, a warning to be able to know for sure if the ports are correctly open?
Go to Status -> I2P. If the ports are opened correctly the network status will be OK.
MuWire will work more or less fine without opening the ports, but you will get more transit traffic (which means better anonymity) if they are.
Thanks for the reply and congratulations on the work done so far! I really appreciated the idea of using appimage for Linux, many orthodox of this OS are against these "shortcuts", but I appreciate everything that makes it easier to use to bring Windows users closer to Linux. Many clients for the eDonkey network like aMule, MlDonkey are disappearing in the repositories. Also Gnutella network and Gnutella 2 clients are not represented, WireShare does not have its own fork for Linux, Gtk Gnutella has an old non-working version in the repositories, Shareaza does not have its own fork for Linux ... The same thing happens for DC ++ too. Sorry if I go off topic, but I was wondering if you were interested in creating appimage of some of these clients, or if you know someone who is interested in doing so. it would be a treasure for Linux users who have to use Wine for these networks. In this way, those who use Linux are penalized compared to those who use Windows because most of the most used p2p networks are not available.
Thanks for the kind words. I don't really have the time to work on anything other than I2P and MuWire, but if any of the devs of the p2p applications you mention need help creating an AppImage I'm happy to help out. It's really not hard, but wine may complicate things.
Did you get your ports sorted?
Yes, everything was working, I am very satisfied with MuWire :) A curiosity, is it possible to create appimages from programs created only for Windows?
I imagine if the wine libraries are included in the AppImage it should be possible. I've personally never used wine so no idea how hard or easy that would be.
