Status of the v4.0.0beta versions

What is the state of the v4.0.0betaX versions ?

We upgraded to the v4 version a year ago when it seemed like it would be the way to to go for Rails5 support.

It's been over a year now since v4 has had any new release, while the v3 has had regular updates and even landed Rails5 support. There doesn't seem to be a difference in features, so is v4 still relevant ?

@bquorning do you have any insights into this ?

I still believe that the design of v4 is superior to that of v3, but unfortunately I cannot say when (or if) I will have time to continue development of the v4 branch.

Contributions are always welcome. If someone would like to backport (or rather forward-port) the changes from the v3 branch to the v4 branch, that would be awesome.

@godric Just curious – have you been using v4.0.0.betaX in production for a year without issues besides missing Rails 5 compatibility?

We did use v4.0.0.beta9 in production for over year, along with Rails5 (which it does support apparently) since around February. We're really only using the "slave" feature through, and never sharding 🤷‍♂.
