tbh its more of an issue with a gnome thats just stealing focus for a sec when you change layouts on win + space, so idk how would someone even solve this at a browser lvl. Maybe devs could do a little delay for closing search bar when zen detects gnome session but idk.

maybe if it possible to configure zen to not close the new tab dialog on winkey press for gnome esc is enough IMO...

Hi, @nrbnlulu. I'm Dosu, and I'm helping the desktop team manage their backlog and am marking this issue as stale.

Issue Summary:

  • You reported that on Linux (Flatpak) with Firefox and Vivaldi, pressing "Winkey + Space" closes the new tab dialog, conflicting with the common input language switch shortcut.
  • This issue does not occur on Windows and happens even without mods or custom CSS.
  • Contributor TrixieUA explained the problem likely arises from GNOME briefly stealing focus during layout changes, complicating fixes at the browser level.
  • A proposed workaround involves adding a delay before closing the dialog.
  • You suggested a configurable option to prevent closing the dialog on Winkey press, using Esc to close instead.

Next Steps:

  • Please let me know if this issue is still relevant with the latest version of the desktop repository by commenting here to keep the discussion open.
  • If I don’t hear back within 7 days, I will automatically close this issue.

Thanks for your understanding and contribution!

I'm experiencing the same issue on Manjaro KDE Plasma 1.15.5b (Firefox 142.0.1) (64-bit)

Found a solution. The two layout switching mechanisms work differently with focus. I think the issue is resolved in a similar way for Gnome. Image Image

Found a solution on Gnome 48. This extension helps: https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/4559/quick-lang-switch/

This isn't just a problem with the New Tab bar. The URL bar works the same way. I mean doesn't work at all. And while removing the language window could be solution, I like that window.
