What happened?

I am unable to use the "ctrl+shift+c" shortcut to highlight and select an html element in the dom. I also tried to remove the default Zen shortcut to copy the url. The dev tools still show the shortcut even if the default shortcut is still set.

Expected behavior

Opening the dev-tools and toggling the selection mode after removing the default Zen shortcut.

Actual behavior

Nothing happens when trying to use the shortcut after removing the default Zen shortcut.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open Settings
  2. Remove the default "Copy current URL" shortcut
  3. Go to any website
  4. Press "ctrl+shift+c"

@mr-cheffy ctrl+shift+i just opens the dev tools. It doesn't active the element picker.

Edit:
My mistake! I mistook the small L for an i for what ever reason.

The tooltip shows the Firefox default shortcut, while the Zen default is:

When you unlink the shortcut from the copy link action and change the above to ctrl+shift+c, it works

Perfect! Thank you! But still, the shortcut shown in the dev tools is wrong and should show the actual shortcut assigned in the settings.

Hi, @lNaymonl. I'm Dosu, and I'm helping the desktop team manage their backlog. I'm marking this issue as stale.

Issue Summary

  • The "ctrl+shift+c" shortcut was not functioning as expected for highlighting and selecting HTML elements.
  • User mr-cheffy suggested a different shortcut, but it did not resolve the issue.
  • Propheticus provided a solution by reassigning the shortcut, which you confirmed worked.
  • You noted that the dev tools should display the correct shortcut as assigned in the settings.

Next Steps

  • Please confirm if this issue is still relevant to the latest version of the desktop repository.
  • If no further updates are provided, this issue will be automatically closed in 7 days.

Thank you for your understanding and contribution!

The correct shortcut from the settings is still not shown in the dev tools.

I don't know if the tooltip is dynamic or just a fixed text, because in Firefox you can't change this shortcut.

Then maybe, it would make sense to either make the shortcut static as well or change the text to tell the user to look into the settings or something like that.

I ran into this issue on Mac. I was able to fix it on Mac following @Propheticus instructions and rebinding the Toggle Inspector shortcut to CMD+SHIFT+C

Me too. But in my opinion it would make sense to show the actual shortcut in the devtools if possible. If it is only static, maybe put a informal text which either shows the default shortcut and hints to the setting in Zen itself or just the hint.

Thanks! I needed to not just remove the new URL copy shortcut, but also re-set it at Toggle Inspector.
