I am also experiencing this issue with the Raindrop.io extension in Zen browser.

When I type "rd" followed by a search query in the address bar, the Raindrop.io extension successfully fetches and displays my saved bookmarks in the address bar suggestions. However, when I use the arrow keys to navigate to a suggested link or click on it, the "rd" prefix remains in the address bar. This prevents the browser from navigating to the selected URL when I press Enter.

The "rd" prefix should be automatically removed from the address bar as soon as I start navigating the search results with the arrow keys or select a link, allowing the link to open correctly when Enter is pressed. This is the standard behavior in other browsers like Chrome and Firefox.

System Information:

  • Operating System: Windows 11
  • Zen Browser Version: 1.13.1b
  • Raindrop.io Extension Version: 6.6.76

I hope this additional information helps in getting this bug resolved soon. The "rd" shortcut is a crucial part of my workflow, and I'm looking forward to seeing it fixed in a future update. Thank you to the Zen browser team for your hard work on this promising browser.

Can confirm the same issue on Linux Mint. Will really be great if this can be resolved🤞

After testing, I found out that this problem is not just occurring with Raindrop extension and its rd shortcut, but with all search shortcuts that are provided by 3rd party browser extensions via the Omnibox API.

This problem is not contained to just Raindrop browser extension. It occurs in the exact same manner on all extensions.

  1. Type keyword/shortcut followed by a space and a search query.
  2. Zen search box shows the proper hint in the suggestion list, indicating that it has detected the intention to search via the extension's shortcut.
  3. Press Enter or click to select the search option from the list.
  4. Zen search box disappears and nothing happens. There's also no error in DevTools console when inspecting the extension via about:debugging.

This can be tested by searching omnibox or omnibar in Firefox Addons store and grabbing some extensions that has Omnibox functionality to test. All of them will have exactly this same broken behavior.

I'm experiencing this issue as well with the linkding browser extension (sort of like a self-hosted raindrop).

In case it is useful here is an issue submitted on that repo about this same sort of thing happening in Vivaldi.

https://github.com/sissbruecker/linkding-extension/issues/53

In the comments there is a link to a discussion on the Vivaldi Forum where the mention some of the events that are not firing and causing issues with another extension.

I tested the extension in Firefox and it works in there, so it's probably a symptom of the current issue with Zen's URL bar here and not related to the issue with Vivaldi or Linkding extension itself.

  • Several users confirmed similar issues across different systems and browsers, including Zen and Linux Mint.
  • BarnMTB identified the problem affects all search shortcuts using the Omnibox API, not just Raindrop.

Still an issue on my side - Linux Mint, running Zen 1.14.5b

I just tried a couple of tests on twilight and was surprised to see it working with the linkding extension now.

The most recent update in my update history reads "Twilight 1.15t (20250725103329)" and I'm on Windows 11.

Not sure if this means the raindrop extension might work on this version too.
