What happened?
I've got Ubuntu 24 and my keyboard layout switching by hotkey shift + alt.
When I click, or call by hotkey - doesnt matter, new tab (ctrl + T) and try to switch layout - spotlight bar for new tab unexpectedly closing. So after switching my layout I need to call ctrl T again every time. It is very annoying.

the same happens for me, previously it was okey, but starting a month ago, or maybe less, after updating to latest zen browser, upon changing layout the spotlight disappears, it will create problem specially when you want to write a multi-language search ( for my case I change the language via Super + Space )
Same problem with Flatpak installation on Fedora 42 with Super + Space shortcut
Same issue for me on Ubuntu with Tarball installation. For both Super + Space and Alt + Shift shortcuts.
Hi, @WebKieth. I'm Dosu, and I'm helping the desktop team manage their backlog. I'm marking this issue as stale.
Issue Summary:
- The spotlight input bar closes unexpectedly when switching keyboard layouts using "Shift + Alt" on Ubuntu 24 in version 1.12.5b of the Linux (Flatpak) platform.
- The issue does not occur in Mozilla Firefox.
- Other users, including unikzforce, frusanov, and monk-eli, have confirmed the issue on different Linux distributions like Fedora 42 and Ubuntu with Tarball.
- The problem seems to have started after a recent update to the Zen browser.

I do not know if it's relevant to this issue, but the opening new private window hotkey (Ctrl+Shift+P) is also broken since around the time this ticket has been created.
It seems like floating bars tend to disappear when window loses focus. As Gnome has an old issue where layout switching momently steals focus from the active window, it causes url/spotlight bar to disappear.
I have the same issue with Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, Gnome 46, and Zen Browser from Flatpak. Downgrading Zen Browser version, using Gnome Tweaks, or Gnome Extensions to instantly switch layouts doesn't work for me. I tried to replicate the issue in QEMU with Ubuntu 25 and Gnome 48 with Gnome Tweaks, and it worked fine. Hopefully, Zen team can fix it.
Same issue here on latest Fedora and using Win+Space shortcut to switch layout, using the Flatpak Zen
A similar issue arises when using the Win+Space or Shift+Alt keyboard shortcuts while searching from the URL bar.
Got the same issue. Has anyone checked if it's flatpak-only bug in Linux? Since I haven't encountered this bug in Windows version.
@DSWNG I have the same issue with AppImage
