What happened?

Noticed that the wider the screen above 16:9 aspect ratio the worse this blurring gets! Noticed that if I click anywhere on the screen the blur sometimes disappears (depending on the page)! (note: Im not clicking on any interactive elements just an empty div on the page) If I refresh the page (f5) the blur is not present unless I scroll, but after scrolling it stays blurry. Issue is not present in current latest firefox build! -- zen only issue!

This issue is present in both Windows 11 24H2 and on Linux under Wayland

Fullscreen (5120x1440) Image Same page but windowed mode (approx. 2560x1440) Image

How to reproduce: Strech zen window way beyond 16:9 aspect ratio, effect is amplified by the width of the window.

1.12.5b (Firefox 138.0.3) (64-bit)

Does this help: https://github.com/zen-browser/desktop/issues/6302#issuecomment-2764052368 ? instead of step 3, you can also use a zen.theme.content-element-separation of 0

Propheticus avatar May 19 '25 14:05 Propheticus

1, Setting zen.view.experimental-rounded-view to false fixes the blur unless you scroll, after scrolling it is blurry again on some pages (e.g: https://zen-browser.app/whatsnew) but it remains blurry in about:config 2, zen.theme.content-element-separation to 0 fixes the issue but now the window has no borders.

Rounded-view = false, content-element-separation = 8 (default) Image

Rounded-view = false, content-element-separation = 0Image

Hi, @lantgabor. I'm Dosu, and I'm helping the desktop team manage their backlog. I'm marking this issue as stale.

Issue Summary:

  • The issue involves blurred fonts in the Zen browser on ultrawide monitors, not present in Firefox.
  • You confirmed a workaround by setting zen.view.experimental-rounded-view to false and zen.theme.content-element-separation to 0, which resolves the blurring but removes window borders.
  • @Propheticus suggested configuration changes, and other users like @ximian and @ilham-agustiawan supported the solution.
  • @sebastianillges referenced a potentially related issue, #8396.

Next Steps:

  • Please let me know if this issue is still relevant to the latest version of the desktop repository by commenting here.
  • If no updates are provided, the issue will be automatically closed in 7 days.

Thank you for your understanding and contribution!

As of version 1.14b, changing zen.view.experimental-rounded-view to false and zen.theme.content-element-separation to 0 doesn't fix the issue for me. I'm using a Linux flatpak version. OS: Pop!_OS 22.04 Screen resolution: 5120x1440

zen.view.experimental-rounded-view is no longer doing anything, btw. (see the dustbin icon next to it, which means it's now seen as a custom flag.) I think even in the previous 1.13.2b it was not.

Found an issue. It was the Bleeding Corners Fix mod.

  • The issue remains unresolved and was previously marked stale pending updates.

It's still an issue with the "Bleeding Corners Fix" mod. Without the mod, everything looks fine.

Regards, Daniel

I managed to fix this running with MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1

EDIT: Nope that did not fix it, but as weird as it sounds, if I maximize the Zen window on top of a different application it is fixed as well. I only see the blurry text when Zen is the only application in the workspace. I'm using GNOME with multiple workspaces.

EDIT2: As someone mentioned before. The issue was related to rounded corners. After disabling rounded corners the problem is fixed. My previous suggestions were not correct.

Hi, @lantgabor. I'm Dosu, and I'm helping the desktop team manage their backlog and am marking this issue as stale.

Issue Summary:

  • You reported blurred fonts in Zen browser 1.12.5b on ultrawide monitors when stretching beyond 16:9, affecting Windows and Linux Wayland.
  • Workarounds like disabling zen.view.experimental-rounded-view and adjusting zen.theme.content-element-separation initially helped but caused other issues and stopped working in later versions.
  • The blur was linked to the "Bleeding Corners Fix" mod, confirmed by multiple users including on macOS.
  • Recent comments indicate disabling rounded corners resolves the blur, but a proper fix is still pending.

Next Steps:

  • Please let me know if this issue is still relevant with the latest version of the Zen browser by commenting here to keep the discussion open.
  • Otherwise, I will automatically close this issue in 10 days.

Thanks for your understanding and contribution!

Still an issue

othyn avatar Nov 20 '25 10:11 othyn

If it helps I've been struggling with this exact issue for a long time on Firefox - so possibly not related to Zen directly

simonsmith avatar Dec 09 '25 13:12 simonsmith

setting zen.theme.content-element-separation to 0 fixed it for me. No active mods. Using niri, Wayland, on RTX 5000 series.
