What happened?

MacOS text expansion/replacement doesn't work on Zen.

about:config widget.macos.automatic.text_replacement is set to true for me.

I found two existing issues/discussions, the first issue was closed by a repo cleanup and the comment suggested to create a new issue (as I am doing now). The second was a discussion thread with no responses.

I also would love to see this feature added, though I'm worried it might be a limitation from the Firefox engine with no easy workaround.

I want to switch from Arc to Zen, but can't due to this bug.

Perhaps adding a dedicated feature in zen for text replacement would be a good workaround (Users will need to manually add all text replacements)

I just switched from FF to Zen, but FF does support it since version 137 or 136, so it was added quite recently. So I guess this depends on the FF version Zen is built on top.

I just tried Firefox latest (139) on my Mac and it’s not working reliably. Yes there’s the odd lucky text box on some websites that occasionally does text replacement but not reliably. I don’t think it’s been fixed on Firefox yet.

Same here. It 'works', but is quite unreliable

  • Sometimes it doesn't replace at all
  • Sometimes, the cursor position after the replacement is wonky

This might be the thing right now that prevents me from finally ditching Chrome 😕

Hi Dosu, I just tested this on Mac(Apple silicon). It doesn't work, even for latest Zen browser.
