What happened?

When the sidebar is open (on bookmarks for example) and I full screen on a page (like a YouTube video) the padding from the side bar (space in between the sidebar and the edge of the screen) is still visible. This does not happen if the sidebar is not open.

This may be related to #7260 as I also have that issue but I don't know.

Good question to help find the possible code diff to blame for the issue. I don't remember seeing this before, but also don't have the sidebar open all the time...

I only noticed this in the latest version after I updated.

I can reproduce this issue in the latest twilight (Version 1.11.4t Build ID 20250417103312) on a clean profile.

Workaround: popout the video PiP and then fullscreen.

* updated with latest restest

Still happening on the latest version 1.11.5b (Firefox 137.0.2)(64-bit) and it is happening on Ubuntu and Windows 11

Unless closed or otherwise updated (or in release notes) you can assume, yes, it's still happening. Latest is 1.12.2b btw

I believe this will be closed by my recent PR #8322

Hi, @Amnoshield. I'm Dosu, and I'm helping the desktop team manage their backlog. I'm marking this issue as stale.

Issue Summary:

  • Sidebar padding remains visible during full-screen mode on YouTube for Windows users on Firefox 137.0.
  • Affects multiple versions, including 1.11.1b and 1.11.5b, and operating systems like Ubuntu and Windows 11.
  • Propheticus confirmed the issue and suggested using Picture-in-Picture mode as a workaround.
  • SO9010's pull request #8322 might have resolved the issue.

Next Steps:

  • Please confirm if this issue is still relevant with the latest version of the desktop repository by commenting here.
  • If there is no further activity, this issue will be automatically closed in 7 days.

Thank you for your understanding and contribution!

I am still having this issue on the latest version 1.13.1b (Firefox 139.0.4) (64-bit) on the latest pop!_os version

Still there, indeed.

As a workaround you can use this CSS in a userChrome.css file in your profile's chrome folder:

:root[sizemode="fullscreen"] {
 --zen-element-separation: 0px !important;
 --zen-border-radius: none !important;
}

(to find that folder / make the file, see steps 1 and 2 of https://docs.zen-browser.app/guides/live-editing copying the CSS from above can be done using a simple text editor to edit the file. Just make sure to save as .css and not .css.txt)

@Propheticus I probably won't use that because it doesn't bother me that much but good to know anyway. My reply was more to stop this from getting marked as stale by the bot so it can be fixed at some point in the future but this isn't a huge issue to me.

This still exists on the latest version 1.14.5b (Firefox 140.0.4) (64-bit) on pop os. This is still low priority and I am only commenting to stop it from being marked stale.

I'll work on it soon :) just wanna make sure that the structure rewrite is finished otherwise it won't get merged :)

I’m experiencing a similar issue on macOS with compact mode when full-screen-api.ignore-widgets is set to true and I try to enable fullscreen on any video player. In my case, the left padding becomes much larger than expected. Disabling compact mode solves the problem, but I really like using compact mode and would prefer to keep it enabled.
