What happened?

Just take a look at #6595

That was closed for no reason. And read a comment that it also happens on Linux too. Zen does not work at all anymore.

Also note: OPENING BROWSER CONSOLE CAUSES INSTANT CRASH. This might be related, because console used to work before.

Tried it. Doesn't work, unfortunately.

Also happening for me on Fedora Linux. it stopped for a while, and then I just updated today and it started happening again.

They often seem to crash seconds after I go to another tab.

Have you tried checking for an update? I'm on fedora silverblue and whenever zen updates in the background, all the tabs will crash instantly until I restart it. there's no update indicator. or even a notification letting me know.

You can change the way your browser updates in Settings, under the "Zen Updates": Check for updates but let you choose to install them

That is, if that works how it says it should. 😅

But my browser never works, with or without the update.

Yeah, I don't have any header in my setting pages for updates at all. It might be because I'm using the flatpak. The closest thing is the Zen Mods updates. The flatpak itself never updates though, from what I glanced from my system monitor, it's downloading the .mar files and updating that way.

Hi, @Delicious-Bacon. I'm Dosu, and I'm helping the desktop team manage their backlog. I'm marking this issue as stale.

Issue Summary:

  • Persistent crash in Zen browser on Linux when opening the console.
  • Issue confirmed by another user on Fedora Linux, especially after tab switching.
  • Suggested solutions like using a new profile and checking for updates did not resolve the issue.
  • Flatpak version's lack of update notifications might contribute to the problem.

Next Steps:

  • Please let me know if this issue is still relevant to the latest version of the desktop repository by commenting here.
  • If there is no further activity, this issue will be automatically closed in 7 days.

Thank you for your understanding and contribution!

The issue is still relevant. I also tried it on other operating systems and they eventually start crashing the tabs too. Since I lost the session so many times, I use an extension to save my sessions, and pin all of my tabs that I want to see when I open Zen the next time.

Delicious-Bacon avatar May 16 '25 16:05 Delicious-Bacon

I came to look if someone already posted about it. Every once in a while a tab crashes and "restore" doesn't work, new tabs don't open they just crash too and it takes a close-and-reopening of the browser for it to work again. Worse still, after reopening the browser, the tabs that crashed now are just "new tabs". One day I was on yt and I opened a a series of tabs with middle-click then realized they all didn't open, just crashed. I close the browser, reopen it, and lost the videos, all tabs just blank.

Just started seeing this in 1.13.1b after upgrading. It's only select tabs, but it's completely random... Recent update makes Google Drive completely unusable.
