Pinned tabs aren't restored properly when multiple windows are open

What happened?
I usually have two windows open at the same time, with different pinned tabs in each. When I reopen the session after closing it, two windows are restored but the pinned tabs aren't restored properly. Specifically, each of the two windows gets the first pinned tab restored correctly, but subsequent pins are restored seemingly at random; some are lost, some are duplicated on both windows. I've not been able to discern a reproducible pattern to which tabs are lost, which are restored correctly, and which are duplicated -- it's different each time I reopen the session.

I have a similar issue. Having essential tabs on two or more windows will replace all of them on restart with the last pinned before closing the application.

Yes, this issue is still a real pain, and makes pinned tabs effectively useless if, like me, you are used to using two browser windows at a time :(

Yes, this issue still exists.
I'm getting this with the latest version today. I recently switched to Zen and I can't seem to keep my pinned tabs. Some disappear and I can't remember which I've lost. This is a huge issue for anyone expecting to pick up they left off.
I ended up giving up and going back to FF, sadly 🙁.
It's really shocking to lose my tabs, and worse, not know which ones I've lost.
I'm really hopeful for this browser since it seems that a lot of issues are getting solved.
This one would be my top priority given how frustrating it can be. Is this being worked on?
@Ashkaan try unpinning and pinning them again, see if its still happening
I did that just before the last update and it still happened immediately after I updated.
Could you please send a video and logs? (ctrl+shift+J)
I pressed ctrl+shift+J and nothing happened.
I can't make a video of something that randomly happens, but I was able to take screenshots!
This was before rebooting my computer:
And after:
I removed 2x essential tabs and they came back. This is a mess!
@Ashkaan could you please turn on zen.pinned-tab-manager.debug in about:config, reproduce and send here the logs? (cmd+shift+J)
Done! I'll report back when I notice it. The hardest part is not knowing which of my tabs disappeared, or which tab I previously closed came back.
Fix will be in twilight soon: zen-browser/desktop/actions/runs/18059097012
Oh, you're already aware of the source of the issue? Do I need to perform this work then?
It happened again with debug enabled. I got some extra tabs this time (I'm not sure which I'm missing).
What about on the latest version?
Same deal. I definitely lost some tabs and others are out of order. This is wild.
I give up
Should be fixed now 👍🏽
Try to unpin and repin, make sure to enable the debug flat and send logs if it still happens
I am having similar issues. After I restart my computer and open Zen, the second window will have the essentials tabs missing completely
@StevenBR as I said:
