AI: Gemini CLI authentication broken - Google login does not open browser
Summary
Description
Clicking “Log in with Google” for Gemini CLI auth shows a validation error instead of opening the Google sign-in flow.
Steps to trigger the problem:
Start Zed 0.213.3 on macOS 15.7.1.
Open the AI Assistant panel and choose Gemini CLI as the provider (or otherwise trigger Gemini CLI so that the “Authentication Required” banner appears).
In the “Authentication Required” banner, click Log in with Google.
Expected Behavior: Zed should open the Google sign-in / OAuth flow for Gemini CLI so I can authenticate with my Google account.
Actual Behavior: Instead of navigating to a sign-in page, an error message appears in the assistant panel:
No browser window or sign-in page is opened, and Gemini CLI remains unauthenticated. See attached screenshot: /mnt/data/Screenshot 2025-11-21 at 7.06.02 PM.png.

I am experiencing the exactly same problem as well. For me, it is Zed 0.213.3 Window.

Are you also having issues with logging in to Google for Gemini? I just installed Zed and tried to log in using a new thread with Gemini. It asks for 2 options: Vertex AI, API Key, and Google login. None of these is working.
Hey folks, closing this as a dupe of #43231. Please follow that thread for updates.
