Windows: No inline assist
Summary
Inline assist doesn't have any result, no popup, nothing.
Description
Steps to trigger the problem:
- Press 'inline assist'
- ...
- That's it.
Expected Behavior: Inline assist should open inline chatbox. Actual Behavior: Just nothing.
To elaborate, the issue started for me with official Windows release, ironically before official release it worked fine, and persisted through updates. Clean reinstall doesn't seem to affect it, but maaaaybe there's something less obvious I should remove from the pre-release versions? I'm just guessing at this point. All other AI-related features, including inline suggestions, work fine. Inline assist doesn't trigger neither in terminal nor text editor, shortcuts and button equally not working.

Nothing in the logs seems related in any way, tapping icon once or multiple times doesn't move the log.
Hey @teleoflexuous,
How are you invoking Inline Assistant and what LLM provider do you have configured? Please share any settings related to your AI setup.
Hey, thanks for reaching out!
I'm pressing 'Inline assist' button or keyboard shortcut and failing in both text editor in terminal. I'm mainly using z.ai, I just tried few openrouter free models to check and there's no response either. They work fine within Agent dock/threads. I'm using default profiles, turning off all MCPs didn't cause any change. What other settings would be useful?
I've managed to resolve it.
I don't think I can retrieve old settings.json to double check what was the issue, but I think it was removing some agent-related reference to goose setup. I must've failed to cleanly reinstall at some point I guess. Partially sorry to bother and partially I think there should be some error if invoked service doesn't respond in any way but it's not my call at this point.
No problem at all! I think one of our engineers ran into the same issue. Are you able to share the settings you ended up removing?
Not really, I don't have them tracked :( There isn't any zed-specific method of retrieving global settings, I assume?
I was not able to reintroduce the error by following goose zed integration guide, so I can't 100% confirm that was the issue. I deleted more than one thing, simply going by 'things I'm sure I no longer use' so it could've been something else.
