Agent Panel: Customize options included in model selector

Open unikitty37 opened this issue 7 months ago • 1 comments

The model selector currently displays all available models with a hardcoded recommended section. This is not the most convenient UX for users that prefer local models or who have different preferences, so it'd be nice to be to pin preferred models or exclude some altogether.

@unikitty37 Thanks for submitting this issue! The models you configure under language_models are additional to those that are available by your configured providers (including Zed AI), so this is expected behavior. I agree that'd be nice to configure the model selector though, so I reworded and converted this to a feature request.

I agree, this user interface is starting to become inconvenient when wanting to compare multiple models. Adding a favorites section at the top and the ability to hide unwanted ones would perfectly solve this issue

I run into this multiple times every day. I don't understand how is it normal? why the filter prioritizes Opus over GPT for a "gpt" query? It doesn't even contain the letter "g"!

or why do I need a full list of legacy models in history, like in a museum?

It feels like no one else is using model selector

This is now correctly showing only the Ollama models for me, so the original issue I reported seems to have been fixed (though I'm not sure exactly how — presumably my custom language_models in settings.json now overrides the default rather than adding to it).

That said, for those using all the online models, I agree it would still be useful to be able to pin favourites and hide ones you don't want to use, so the feature request this has become should definitely stay open.
